Jan 12, 2017 · AxCrypt (best for individual files) Axcrypt encrypts each file individually. This is different than 7zip, which stores multiple files in 1 encrypted container/archive. With Axcrypt, you can bulk-encrypt multiple files at once (all using the same password) but then move and store them individually if you want. I am planning to encrypt the data on my new laptop to keep it safe in case of theft. Found these two free encryption utilities; TrueCrypt and AxCrypt. Both have good reviews. Anyone have experience using either or both who could offer any advice? Thanks.

An audited TrueCrypt with the vulnerabilities fixed would be the perfect choice. Unless I personally watch VeraCrypt source code diffs, it would require an audit on the changes, or a high increase in popularity, or many years of maintenance and active community to make me trust them more than the good old TrueCrypt.
